Business Analysis Research Summary June to July 2009

Question: Which modelling techniques do you use?

A successful business analyst will have a range of tools and techniques that they use to effectively elicit requirements and to translate these requirements into an optimal business solution.  As confirmed by our clients, who were consulted for this survey, flow charts have been identified as being the staple of any business analyst’s toolkit with use cases also playing a significant role.

Although these two techniques are valuable when developing requirements it is important to have a range of modelling techniques at your disposal that can help develop and articulate the best solution for your business.  Different techniques are appropriate for different stages of the requirements development process.  Functional decomposition diagrams, for example, are ideal for gaining low level functional requirements that can be translated into a business solution that meets the needs of the client and the end users.

To chat to our Business Analyst Practice Manager or to attend a BA workshop to find out about other techniques available and to determine how they can benefit your business please contact PM-Partners group on +61 1300 701 314 or email.
