In September 2016, the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) will launch four categories of certification for Business Analysts to replace the current CCBA® and CBAP®.
The new certification program will have four distinct levels:
- Level 1 will recognize entry level BA Professionals, and will be exam-based. No relevant experience will be required.
- Level 2 recognizes BA Professionals who have two to three years of business analysis experience. Level 2 will require between 3,000-4,500 hours of experience and is exam based.
- Level 3 will recognize BA Professionals who manage and lead with over 5 years of business analysis experience. Level 3 will require between 7,500-10,500 hours of experience and is also exam based.
- Level 4 will recognize industry thought leaders and those who are giving back to the community to offer further opportunities and growth for senior strategic BA professionals. This level will require a minimum of 15,000 hours and it will be assessment based.
According to the recent update from the IIBA®, the current certifications CCBA® and CBAP® will still be available and examinations will not change until September 2016. BAs with these certifications will be grouped into the second and third levels respectively. Current exams until September 2016 will be based on BABOK® Guide v2; thereafter, they will be based on BABOK® Guide v3
The IIBA® currently has no certifications scheduled specifically in the Agile BA space.
