Sydney OnTarget Event, Recap: “Effective Organisational Change Management and Business Readiness for Major Programmes”

Wednesday, 01 January 2020 / Published in Uncategorised

On Wednesday 9th November, PM-Partners hosted another successful OnTarget event “Effective Organisational Change Management and Business Readiness for Major Programmes” at the Hilton Sydney Hotel. Facilitated by John Karamitros and Ken Sheargold, the presentation focussed on both the challenges and opportunities posed when planning for and executing complex transformations.

John’s presentation detailed a program he led within a large financial services institute, whereby a complex organisational change initiative was implemented using a holistic approach that focused on people, culture and rigorous benefits realisation. With that, John showcased the implemented strategy that encompassed a significant investment in engaging change management early – an approach that proved to be successful in terms of transformation sustainability and return on investment. John also touched on their planned approach which was designed to equip, support and empower leaders to champion and embed change initiatives effectively and with confidence.

Sophie Musumeci, the senior change manager engaged for the program in discussion, spoke briefly about the value in fostering a ‘safe space’ for end users to touch, familiarise and comfortably challenge aspects of the initiative that would eventually impact them. Sophie’s insights proved to be invaluable as she divulged some unique nuances of change activity, including approaches used to successfully build sound relationships and the subsequent advocacy from the sponsors.

Following that, renowned program director Ken Sheargold presented on business readiness for the successful implementation of major programmes, showcasing both the differentiators and successful outcomes from large programs he has led within the private and public sectors. Ken spoke largely about how and when to factor in BAU, do’s and don’ts of steering committee engagement, and the benefits of cultivating transparency and confronting the hard decisions.

It was a successful evening which again reinforced the power of bringing industry peers together to network and share insights for the purposes of feeding back into daily practice.
