Portfolio Management helps organisations make decisions about implementing the right changes to business as usual; those changes are delivered via projects and programmes.

About this Course

MoP approaches the management of change projects and programmes from a strategic viewpoint, providing an overview of all change activities including; implications, risks, and impact on business as usual. These workshops delve into portfolio management cycles, practices and techniques, offering participants the opportunity to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding to work as an informed member of a portfolio office.

Foundation Course:

Course Objective

The Foundation course is about providing an understanding of:

  • The Portfolio Management cycles, practices and techniques and the organisational context within which they operate
  • Effective approaches to investment identification, categorisation, prioritisation and selection
  • How project and programme success can be enhanced by adopting a Portfolio perspective to delivery
  • The opportunity to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding to work as an informed member of a Portfolio Office or in a range of Portfolio Management roles.
  • Review and consolidation of concepts as explored and practice exam questions for the Foundation level certification.

Practitioner Course:

This Practitioner Preparation course builds on the Foundation level certification to provide understanding of how to apply and tailor the MoP guidance and to analyse portfolio data, documentation and roles in relation to a scenario situation.

Outcomes & Certification Eligibility

Foundation

By completing the 3-day MoP Foundation course participants will have sufficient knowledge to sit the MoP Foundation exam.

The Foundation exam is taken on the final day of the course based on the following format:

  • 40 minutes
  • 50 questions
  • Pass mark of 50%
  • Multiple-choice format
  • Closed book examination

Practitioner

By completing this 2-day MoP Practitioner course, participants will have sufficient knowledge to sit the MoP Practitioner Examination. APMG administers the MoP examination.

The Practitioner exam tests knowledge, understanding, application, analysis and evaluation of the Guide. The exam is taken on the final day of the course based on the following format:

  • 3-hour examination
  • Based on a scenario
  • A total of 4 questions containing 20 question lines, each of which attracts 1 mark, giving a total of 80 marks
  • The pass mark is 40 (50%).

The MoP qualification is valid for 5 years. Practitioners should re-register within 3-5 years of their original certification to demonstrate their commitment to professional development.

APMG administers the MoP examinations.

Course Prerequisites

Foundation Course:

To gain the greatest benefit from participation in this course attendees should have an interest and/or role in delivering programmes and projects, and organisation strategy from inception to delivery.  There is no pre-course work required for this course.

Practitioner Course:

A pass in the MoP Foundation level examination is required to progress to the 2 day MoP Practitioner Preparation course and examination.

In addition, recommended pre-course reading will be provided prior to the Practitioner course.
