The Management of Portfolios (MoP®) approaches the management of change projects and programmes from a strategic viewpoint, providing an overview of all change activities including; implications, risks, and impact on business as usual. These workshops delve into portfolio management cycles, practices and techniques, offering participants the opportunity to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding to work as an informed member of a portfolio office.

Foundation Workshop:

Workshop Objective

The Foundation workshop is about providing an understanding of:

  • The Portfolio Management cycles, practices and techniques and the organisational context within which they operate
  • Effective approaches to investment identification, categorisation, prioritisation and selection
  • How project and programme success can be enhanced by adopting a Portfolio perspective to delivery
  • The opportunity to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and understanding to work as an informed member of a Portfolio Office or in a range of Portfolio Management roles.
  • Review and consolidation of concepts as explored and practice exam questions for the Foundation level certification.

Outcomes & Certification Eligibility

Foundation Workshop:

The examination is undertaken on the final day of the workshop.  The APMG administers the MoP examinations.

By completing the 3 day Management of Portfolios (MoP) Foundation Workshop participants will have sufficient knowledge to sit the MoP Foundation Examination.

The MoP Foundation exam is a 40 minute 50 multiple question closed book examination. It has a pass mark of 50%.

Practitioner Workshop:

The MoP Practitioner exam is of 3 hour duration and is based on a scenario, with a total of 4 questions containing 20 question lines, each of which attracts 2 marks, giving a total of 80 marks.  The pass mark is 40 (50%).  The Practitioner exam tests knowledge, understanding, application, analysis and evaluation of the Guide.

Course Prerequisites

Foundation Workshop:

In order to derive the greatest benefit from participation in this workshop attendees should have an interest and/or role in delivering programmes and projects, and organisation strategy from inception to delivery.  There is no pre-course work required for this workshop.

Practitioner Workshop:

A pass in the MoP Foundation level examination is required to progress to the 2 day MoP Practitioner Preparation workshop and examination.

In addition, recommended pre-course reading will be provided prior to the Practitioner workshop.
