Lead Data Engineer

We are seeking a Lead Data Engineer to take ownership of the technical architecture and delivery of large‑scale, cloud‑based data platforms. This is a senior, hands‑on role combining solution design, development, and technical leadership while working closely with data engineering teams to deliver scalable analytics solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own the technical design and implementation of enterprise‑scale data platforms.
• Translate business and analytical requirements into robust, cloud‑native data solutions.
• Lead the development of data ingestion, processing, and transformation pipelines.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to data engineers throughout delivery.
• Contribute hands‑on code across core components of the data platform.
• Ensure data solutions meet performance, reliability, and maintainability standards.
• Support delivery planning by identifying risks, dependencies, and technical considerations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, analytics, and delivery teams.

REQUIREMENTS

• Strong, hands‑on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data and analytics technologies.
• Proven experience designing cloud‑native data platform architectures, including – migrating and re‑engineering existing data platforms to GCP native services, designing and delivering greenfield cloud data platforms.
• Experience designing and implementing – Batch and event‑driven data ingestion pipelines, real‑time data ingestion and processing pipelines.
• Strong BigQuery experience, including SQL optimisation and performance tuning.
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines for data workloads using tools such as Cloud Build, Artifact Registry, and Terraform.
• Experience implementing data governance solutions using GCP tooling (e.g. Dataplex, Data Catalog).
• Hands‑on programming experience with Python and Java.
• Experience applying Generative AI technologies in enterprise environments.
• Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Cloud Workflows, BigQuery, Cloud Build.
