Course Overview

As agile delivery methods gain popularity at Portfolio, Program and Project Team levels in all sizes of organisations, the relevance of a traditional PMO has been called into question. However, consider the fundamental role of a PMO: to protect the investments that an organisation makes in strategic initiatives and projects to ensure the best possible value/outcomes are achieved. This is done via a series of frameworks and controls that provide appropriate rigour for the delivery method applied and ultimately provide input into key decision-making by executives.

Most organisations use a blend of Predictive (e.g. Waterfall) and Agile (e.g. Scrum, SAFe®) approaches to deliver initiatives. Today’s PMO must therefore be able to support a range of delivery approaches and will need to strike the right balance between having a clear governance structure and oversight, and allowing teams the flexibility to innovate, with a consistency of language.

This course aims to:

  • Provide a practical guide for PMO Practitioners who are introducing agile to the delivery environment, or those wanting to uplift delivery outcomes in a Hybrid Delivery Environment (that supports both predictive and agile delivery teams).
  • Outline a number of changes that PMOs will need to make when moving to a hybrid environment, along with a series of techniques and approaches that can be applied to achieve improvements both in the PMO and in the delivery community.

This course will enable participants to:

  • Identify the critical success factors in establishing an effective Hybrid Agile PMO
  • Implement practices that allow the organisation to effectively prioritise and manage a Hybrid Agile PMO portfolio
  • Establish processes and practices that ensure the right level of accountability and governance is applied throughout projects
  • Establish appropriate measures for each project to enable executives to make informed, data-driven decisions
  • Provide a consistent reporting framework to provide real-time visibility into performance, financials, and investments
  • Explore common challenges encountered when running a Hybrid Agile PMO

The course focuses on organisations that operate a Hybrid Delivery environment and assumes prior PMO knowledge.

The course does not provide details on how to setup/run a traditional PMO or how to do agile. Rather, the course offers a practical guide that can be used to achieve PMO and delivery-based improvements within your organisation.

This course is therefore aimed at PMO and other relevant Practitioners who are operating in a Hybrid Delivery Environment and those that have responsibility for:

  • Delivery Oversight
  • Application of PMO Controls and Services
  • Provision of Support for the Delivery Community

There is no exam associated with this course.

On completion of this course, you will be awarded with a PM-Partners digital badge. These are widely accepted by leading organisations as recognition of specialist training and often shared on social media.

On the last day of training, you will be provided with a Digital Credential via the Credly Acclaim platform. This badge can be added directly to your LinkedIn profile and/or shared to your newsfeed, or other professional profile, to share your achievement with your network.

PDUs
Participants who have been awarded the Project Management Professional (PMP)® credential by the Project Management Institute (PMI)® are eligible to earn 14 PDUs for their participation in this course (10 Ways of Working and 4 Business Acumen).

Participants holding any of the Project Management accreditations (CPPP/CPPM/CPPD) are eligible to earn 20 CPDs for this short course.

PMI and Project Management Professional (PMP) are registered marks of the Project Management Institute, Inc.

  • Have a thorough understanding of traditional PMO services, as well as project and portfolio practices. 
  • Have a basic understanding of agile.

Is this a certified course?

No. This is not an accredited certification but participants will receive a digital badge.
